More Than a Thousand Kisses (2000)
(J.S. Bach's Coffee Cantata)
- Filmed partially in period costume on location in
Vancouver, B.C.
- A delightful film blending past and present, fiction
and non-fiction, to form a unique interpretation of
this distinctive Bach work
- Features the celebrated soprano Suzie LeBlanc along
with baritone Nathaniel Watson and the Pacific Baroque
Orchestra
"A witty and affectionate celluloid fantasy based on Bach’s ‘Coffee Cantata’ in which a young lady named Lieschen loves her coffee ‘more than a thousand kisses’, but her father, Schlendrian, tries to force her to give up the drink. She outwits the old duffer, of course. The performance is provided by soprano Suzie LeBlanc as the feisty Lieschen, with baritone Nathaniel Watson, who ‘growls just like a grizzly bear’, as Schlendrian. The singers are accompanied in impeccable period style by Marc Destrube and the ‘occasionally bewigged and beknickerbockered’ Pacific Baroque Orchestra."
